Repertoire I Have Played
A Tribute the Jazz Greats
During my time at VCU, I have played in several small jazz ensembles and two jazz orchestras. The following is a list of some of the music I have performed.

Thad Jones
1923-1986
The music of Thad Jones seems to be a favorite amongst my professors. Jones' music has been some of the most challenging music I have tackled. His music is lively, precise, and, when played correctly, swings hard.
"Three and One"
"Kids Are Pretty People"
"Second Race"
"Walkin' About"

Sammy Nestico's music has been a refreshing part of the repertoire I have enjoyed playing in jazz orchestra.
"The Queen Bee
"Ya Gotta Try"

John Coltrane
1926-1967

John Coltrane's A Love Supreme has been impactful to me because I can very much relate to his musical intentions. His desire was to preach through his horn. That is precisely my desire. His music conveys freedom, passion, and intense emotion. It has inspired me to examine my own passions and emotions and explore how I can convey them through music.
"Alabama"
"Dahomey Dance"
"Impressions"
"Lazy Bird"
"Naima"

Though I have never personally met Sonny Rollins, he has played a huge role in my musical life. Sonny taught me how to play the blues and rhythm changes. I also credit him with making me fall in love with calypso. Sonny plays with humor and boldness. So much joy comes from his horn. Those are qualities that I strive for. My classmates in the jazz orchestra have nicknamed me "Sonny TaRollins." What an honor!
"Alfie's Theme"
"Tenor Madness"
"Mambo Bounce"
"The Everywhere Calypso"
"No Moe"
"St. Thomas"
